You will probably not be able to do that. Since 9-11, the American government has increased banking regulations in order to fight terrorism. One of those more stringent requirements is for the bank to verify the identity of individuals who open a bank account. Many do this anyway, running credit checks to make sure that the individual opening the account hasn’t tried to perpetuate any scams at other banks. Foreign nationals can open accounts with American banks, but they usually have to apply in person to open the account. You might try seeing if any of the major American banks, (Chase, Citibank, etc) have a branch open near you. I would think they would have an office in Rome, at least.
