Can I obtain a copy of my DD214 form my discharge papers from the military by fax or by going to a base?
Although you should have recieved your DD214 when you separated, there are three different places you can go to retrieve a copy: 1 the personnel office where you were separated has to keep a copy of your DD214 for at least 2 years from the date of separation. Contact them and they may be able to fax it to you. 2 The state VA where you choose to have your DD214 mailed to keeps a copy on file. When you gave the personnel office your mailing address after separation, that is most likely the state they mailed the VA’s copy of your DD214 to. To get a copy from the VA, you have to send them a written request first. 3 Each branch has it’s own record archives office, if the personnel office did it’s job, then they should have mailed a copy of the DD214 to them as well. I am unsure of what branch you were in, but the archives office is your fallback in case the first two options I mentioned do not work out. Just google “military record archives” for further guidance. Good luck.
