Can I neck up .270 to make 30-06 brass?
Years ago I rechambered a .308 Winchester to .30/.284 which is a .284 Winchester case necked up to .308 and used a customer Redding FL size die to do it. The decapping pin has an expander to resize the neck to the larger caliber so you should be able to do the same thing with a standard 30-06 FL size die. If you have some, use (very sparingly) some mica on the inside of the case neck to give it some dry lubrication. I would also suggest you clean the cases before sizing to get as much residue off the case neck to prevent galling when sizing. Your going to be stretching that brass a bunch so anything you can do to ease the transition the better. Another thought. Pull the decapping rod from your sizing die before you start and clean the expander of any buildup. Take your time and you shouldn’t have a problem.
