Can I move programs like iTunes, Word & games onto my external hard drive to free up space?
Windows is quite picky about things staying where they are installed. In order to safely move most programs to another drive, you’ll need to uninstall them then reinstall them to the other drive. Usually during the setup process the program will ask where you want it installed. It chooses the system drive by default. The other thing to consider is that none of those programs will work without the external drive connected and powered on. If you end up taking the drive somewhere (work, school) and forget to bring it back, those programs won’t work. I would suggest adding another internal drive, but if that’s not an option then yes you can move your programs to an external. One more thing to consider: the programs themselves don’t usually take up THAT much room. it’s usually the data that they create. For iTunes, can you move your music to the external drive? That would probably free up much more space than moving the program itself.
