You can, but I wouldn’t. You will be very disappointed in the results after a few months. The Kentucky 31 is a pasture type of tall fescue with a very coarse texture and a clumpy nature. Cows and horses like it, but not for baseball. They eat it. Mustang tall fescue is one of the early tall fescues that was developed for lawns in the late 1970s. It still is a good tall fescue for lawns exhibiting a finer texture and better features for turf grass than Kentucky 31. There are even more superior tall fescues now for turf grass than Mustang, but Mustang makes an acceptable lawn grass if you like tall fescues. Q: I have some old grass seed. Can I use it to seed in bare spots in my lawn? A: I’m assuming this is the same grass that was used in the original lawn when it was installed. If that’s the case, then sure you can use it.
