Can i make my girlfriend take a paternity test?

0

I am in a situation where the father wanted nothing to do with me while I was pregnant nor did any member of his family. Since it has came out about his drug usage and heavy drinking habits, his mommy wants her sweet baby boy back, thinking by using my child she will achieve this. I don’t want this man or any member of his piece of crap family around my child. It would not be good for the baby in the long run seeing as how the father can’t quit his childish behavior, so to the person who said it wasn’t good for the baby to be away from his father, that’s bull. Sometimes it is alot better for the child to never know instead of subjecting her/him to a lifetime of heartache by knowing a father that will eventually run away. And trust me, this I know. Why deal with the crap?

You can request a paternity test through court. Also, she can put whatever last name she wishes on the birth certificate, but you can file a petition through the court to have the last name changed. Then you will have to give valid reason why the name should be changed and they might grant the change in last names. She might just be saying that it isn’t yours because she doesn’t want you around. I would definitely get a paternity test done. If you sign the birth certificate, you have rights to that child. Don’t let your girlfriend be childish and keep the baby from you. It’s not good for the baby at all.

Paternity tests are not generally done during pregnancy… It is, however, possible. There is such a thing called Chorionic Villus Sampling that can be used to take a sample from the womb and test for genetic abnormalities like Downs’ Syndrome. I guess this can be used for genetic paternity testing, but that’s a very big expensive deal. Better yet, wait till the child is born to do the testing but start moving on now. Given that she admitted that she was someone else’s girl while making the baby, there’s a big possibility that it’s true.

Laws vary from state to state, but the one thing that is fairly constant in all of them is that the state wants the father to bear as much financial responsibility as they can force onto him. That said, most states will order a DNA test at the father’s expense if there is a question of paternity. However the state ordered test is much less expensive than having it done privately. Naming is usually at the mother’s discretion. If you push the issue, you can take it to court but legal fees are expensive. The best time to push for the name change is at the same time that you challenge paternity because the Attorney Generals office will often intervene on your behalf. If you go that route be prepared to pay child support and possibly be billed for the mother’s and the child’s medical treatment for the pre and post natal care. Contact your state’s Attorney Generals office to get more information. It is noble of you to want to stay involved with your child.

You have to wait till the babys born and go to the courthouse and request a paternity test and they will make her do one. All it is is a swab of the mouth of you and the baby. About the last name if you are the father you will have to sign a paternity affidavit after the paternity test and will have to pay child support but if she does not want the baby to have your last name I believe she can do that since yall are not married.
