ATO Position It is possible to make an application electronically for an ABN. There are two possible methods of doing this. An application may be made electronically through a tax agent via the Electronic Lodgment Service (‘ELS’). Otherwise, electronic lodgment is possible personally via the Business Entry Point (‘BEP’). A special ELS transaction has been designed specifically for tax agents to be able to register a client for the ABN and other new business tax roles at the same time. Tax agents can contact the Tax Reform Information line on 13 72 86. This is special hotline for tax agents only. The BEP system is being expanded to allow the client to register for an ABN and any new business tax accounts by using the Internet site located at www.business.gov.au .
