Can I major in zoology and then become a vet?

In order to become a vet, you need to be very careful that you take the right courses. First, you will attend a traditional college for 3-4 years where you need to take a Pre-Vet track, or if that is not available a lot of math and sciences. You then apply to vet school, which is very competitive, and if accepted you attend for 3 (more or less) years before you get a DVM degree. Majoring in Zoology might, or might not, be enough. Zoology is the study of animals, which is a bit different than the medical aspect. If you are thinking of becoming a vet, please research the requirements of the school you hope to attend (as well as others) to make sure you take the right track. Again, it is very competitive and if you do not have the right courses you will not be accepted.
