Can I lose my Secret security clearance if my wife files bankruptcy to resolve sole-proprietorship debt?
We have an appointment with a local attorney who has told us she can file sole bankruptcy in OK over her business debt. My question is more whether her doing so will cost me my clearance when the renewal background investigation is performed in two years, or whether it would be smarter for us to consider divorce so she could tackle her business financial issues without jeapordizing my job. Bottom line for us…her finances will heal and we can get remarried, but if I lose my job we are completely screwed, as I completely pay for the household, and everything we have is financed by me). I knew about the taxes and took on the installment agreements willingly; I just found out this week about her healthy credit card debt and defaults, which are all in her name solely.
