Can I legally receive information about a family members account or hospital visit?

0

NO. Federal regulations prohibit our office from releasing information on patients over 18 years of age to anyone other than the patient. In order to release information to a parent/guardian/spouse, we must have written consent from the patient. The exception to this rule is if the parent/guardian/spouse is the insurance policyholder — in this case, we may release financial information only. We may only legally release other patient information to parents/guardians of children less than 18 years of age.
