Can i keep red spotted newts in a pond in the uk or is this illegal?
it is illegal to introduce non native species into the british country side, you will face a large fine, red spotted newts are not native to britain, we only have the created and smooth newt, if you put the red spotted newts in your pond and they escape they could decimate what is left of our endangered newts, just look what happened to the red squirrel when the gray was introduced, the chances of the red spotted newt surviving our winters is slim anyway if you have some then keep them indoors and keep our wild life safe.
