Can I kasher (make kosher) my mother’s old Corning Ware pots? Dear Rabbi, My mother has a set of Corning Ware pots which she says she hasn’t used in over 20 years. She would like to give them to me. She does not keep a kosher home, but I do. Can I use her pots? I’ve heard varying opinions on using pots and pans, and even dishes, which had formerly been used with traif (non-kosher) food. Thanks, Marilyn Answer: Dear Marilyn, According to the Conservative Committee on Jewish Law and Standards, corning ware is to be treated like Pyrex and/or glass. These can be kashered in boiling water, and certainly after not having been used for so long. Of course, one is not to kasher corning ware “back and forth” between meat and milk, between kosher and treif. Once kashered it should remain in the domain to which it was kashered.
