Can I join the British Army?

You will need to return to the UK in order to go through many of the joining hoops. However, it’s worth contacting the Defence Attaché at your nearest British High Commission to find out if it’s possible to do the initial stages – BARB test, medical etc – without returning to the UK, as it would be a kick in the teeth if you went all the way back and discovered you weren’t eligible for some reason. Someone has mentioned the Australian Armed Forces, and they are certainly worth considering. You do not need to be an Australian citizen to join up (indeed, a number of my colleagues in the British Army were poached by the Australian medical corps not long ago) and the Aussies have a very well-regarded military that often works with the British as well as having a portfolio of on-going commitments all of their own.
