Can I join Navy reserves with RE4 discharge?

0

On One Hand: You Cannot Re-EnlistFormer military personnel who have been classified Re-enlistment Code 4 (RE4) are not currently eligible to re-enlist in any branch of service or the National Guard. RE4 discharges are normally given to personnel that the Department of Defense finds undesirable for employment. This type of discharge can be given to those receiving dishonorable discharges. On the Other: Sometimes Exceptions Are MadeUntil recently (March 15, 2009) it was possible to join the Army National Guard after receiving an RE4, as long as the RE4 was not received from the Army. This situation may change as employment in the United States ebbs and flows. If the Navy has future problems filling out its reserve ranks, this policy could be re-enacted for the Naval reserves.Bottom LineA RE4 is an extremely undesirable discharge.
