CAN I IMPORT MY VEHICLE FROM A FOREIGN COUNTRY INTO PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MEXICO?

Ans: Yes. According to the law, the maximum time you can import your car into Mexico is 6 months. You can either drive your car into Mexico, or have your vehicle shipped from Miami to Puerto Morelos for an example (30 minutes from Playa Del Carmen). If you have an FM3 then you can renew your vehicle papers without leaving Mexico. If this is not the case, you can easily drive down to Belize, which is about 2.5 hours away and renew your import certification there. You may only sell your vehicle to another foreigner who has a valid FM3. You cannot sell your car to a Mexican.
