Can I host a wordpress.org blog for free?
Hi Suzie, I believe it’s possible using a combination of a free domain name from “co.cc”, and the free hosting package from “000webhost”. Here’s what you need to do. 1. Go to www.co.cc and register your domain name first (eg. www.suzies-site.co.cc) 2. Then go to www.000webhost.com and create a free hosting account. You get 1500Mb of webspace, which is VERY generous, and most importantly you get a MySQL database (which you need to host your WordPress blog. MOST free hosting companies will not supply this, but 000Webhost do.) 3. Follow the instructions supplied by the two companies to set up your DNS settings. From my experience, it was extremely straightforward, and shouldn’t take more than 30 mins or so to be up and running. 4. Then install WordPress, and hey presto – you’ve got a totally free blog, completely under your own control.
