Can I hold an event within the Sandton Convention Center?
Side events will take place within the WSSD venue (Sandton Convention Center) at lunchtimes (1.14 2.45 pm) and evenings (6.15 8.00 pm) during the Summit. As such the WSSD Secretariat coordinates them. Side events must be open to all WSSD delegates and usually take the form of a roundtable, panel discussion or presentation pertaining to a specific issue or initiative related to sustainable development. They are held by, and sponsored by, accredited non-governmental organizations, intergovernmental organizations, specialized UN agencies and governments. It is encouraged that for the WSSD several partners work together to host a single event, as there will be a high volume of requests for side events. As such, not all requests can expect to be approved. The deadline for applications for WSSD Side Events was 20 June 2002. The programme of approved events has not yet been published.
