Can I go short on industry specific indexes?

You will have to sort through them to find the industry specific ones. You can type in a key word such as “gold” to bring up the ones that have gold in the title. For example GLD is shortable. About 1/2 way down the page is a box that tells if you can short it, use margin, and whether there are options on the index. GLD does not have options.
