If you have an EU passport travelling within the EU, you can travel on a valid unexpired passport. Therefore, you can travel to Spain but you will have to return to Ireland before your passport expires in September. However, there are some countries that do require at least 6 months unexpired time from your anticipated date of departure. You should check with the embassy of the country you are travelling to.
