Can I give my cat some metacam as she suffers with a stiff hip?
NO DON’T. i’m a vet, if you have dog metacam i wouldn’tuse it in such an old cat, if the cat is in real pain I would take her to the vet and get bloods and a urine sample looked at to check her kids and liver. if all ok metcam cat should be ok, (although i’d poss use a lower dose)the above info isn’t that helpful with regards to metacam scare mongering, i’ve used it many many times in cats and never had a problem as long as i’ve done bloods and looked at the urine esp in older cats, it may also be a mater of weighing up the risks – if the arthritis is really bad and cat in lots of pain then may have to risk it. the other thing you could try is glucosamine and chondroitin supplements (not human preps these ARE NOT absorbed anything like as well as the animal preps). best thing to do is discuss the options with your vet, don’t use other human nsaids , v toxic for cats.
