Can I get Les Misérables on videotape or DVD?
I don’t know of any recordings of the entire musical. There are two related videos, though: Les Misérables: Stage By Stage (Polygram, 1988) is a one-hour “making of” special, which includes the songs “Bring Him Home” (Gary Morris, the recording session for the CSR), “Castle on a Cloud” (Marissa Dunlop), “On My Own” (Linzi Hateley), “Master of the House” (Barry James and Gay Soper), and the Norwegian production of “One Day More.” To the best of my knowledge, this has only ever been released on VHS cassette. The Dream Cast: Les Misérables in Concert (Columbia TriStar Home Video, 1995) is a 160-minute recording of the 10th Anniversary Concert as televised. The principals include Colm Wilkinson, Philip Quast, Ruthie Henshall, Jenny Galloway, Alun Armstrong, Lea Salonga, Michael Ball, Michael Maguire, Judy Kuhn, Anthony Crivello, Adam Searles, and Hannah Chick. I’ve seen this as both a VHS cassette and a DVD. I believe both are out of print, so you may need to hunt around for a used copy.
