Can I get a visa (land crossing) upon arrival in Nepal?
Yes, no problem. I came to Nepal one week ago. You can easily get a visa after landing. However, it is best you bring along two passport type photos. Otherwise you can get snapped by a digital camera in the airport and pay 300 rupees, but it is extra hassle. For a 30 day visa I paid $40 US, and I think they actually prefer dollars! Shorter times are less, but I don’t recall how much. You can also exchange your money for nepali rupees in the airport. If you need help with accommodation or anything, I suggest you contact Travel Management (P) Ltd. They have been brilliant for me! (www.travelsmanagement.com) I think there are phone numbers there too. I have stayed at Dwarika’s. Shangri-la, Royal Singhi (DON’T–it should be the Royal Stinky!!), a small hotel (the Clarion) in Patan, and now the Himalaya. Excellent rates at all through TM. And but for the RS, really good. The Clarion is not a star hotel, but if you are not too fussy, it has all the amenities, and costs less.
