Can I get a cell phone from a company and have service from a different company?
The LG phone uses CDMA network and that is Sprint PCS, Verizon and Virgin Mobile. Most other carriers use GSM network. The type of network used by your phone cannot be changed (or rarely can be changed and not easily) but you should be able to use the LG Chocolate with any carrier on CDMA network. If you want to use your phone internationally, get a 4-band GSM phone so you can slip in a SIM for any GSM carrier in any country. Currently, 4 times as many phones in the world are GSM compared to CDMA because you can travel worldwide and not pay roaming charges with GSM phones. Bear in mind that when you buy a phone from a carrier, it may be locked to that carrier. A mobile phone service specialist can unlock the phone for a small fee and then the new carrier can engage your phone’s number to their network.
