No you cannot get a British passport as neither of your parents were born in the UK. If your grandparents were Irish you could register as an Irish citizen, but the UK only allows you to go back one generation. You do have the option of an Ancestry visa as you are a Commonwealth citizen and have a grandparent born in the UK. This is a five year visa which allows you to live and work in the UK without having to meet the stringent criteria for a UK work visa. You must be over 17, able and willing to work and have reasonable prospects of doing so. After five years of working in the UK, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (settlement) and after a further year you can apply for citizenship provided you meet other criteria such as good character. The rules are changing in July next year and it will then take longer to get citizenship as your social and economic contribution to the Uk will be the criteria, not purely your length of residency.
