Can I find out how my schools value added performance (Overall Average Pupil Residual) compares to other schools?
We generaly find that: • The top 5% of schools get an overall average pupil residual of +0.6 or more • The top 10% of schools get an overall average pupil residual of +0.5 or more • 80% of schools have an overall average pupil residual of between +0.5 and -0.5 • The bottom 10% of schools get an overall average pupil residual of -0.5 or less • The bottom 5% of schools get an overall average pupil residual of -0.6 or less These figures, which can be obtained from the bottom of your Value Added graph, should be taken with a degree of caution. The overall Mean of Pupil Residuals for large schools is fairly reliable, but the overall Mean of Pupil Residuals for small schools can swing more easily to the extremes.
