You can file an application for shape, sound and colour marks, however the Protocol has no provision for scent marks. Any written description you provide on the international application form for special types of marks must be the same as on the basic trade mark If you file a special type of mark, you need to ensure that it will be recognised and therefore acceptable for the countries you wish to designate. If they do not recognise that type of mark under their national legislation, it cannot be extended protection in that country.
