Can I expect to gain or lose weight-taking guaifenesin?
Guaifenesin doesn’t cause weight gain or loss. Fibromyalgia can cause weight gain, because there is a block to energy formation. Food is converted to some heat, but the remainder is converted to fat. So the guaifenesin itself will not cause weight loss, but a cessation or decrease in intensity of FMS symptoms may. Also, medications some doctors prescribe for FMS can cause weight gain, but weight gain is so common in fibromyalgia that it may occur whether or not drugs are used.
