Technically, they can give you a ticket…but they won’t. When they look it up and see you’ve paid they let it slide. If you think the sticker got lost in the mail, you can get a duplicate sticker at the DMV office or AAA Auto Club by filling out REG 156. Mark it “not received” so you don’t pay the $18 fee. They will accept that when they see in the records that you paid by mail. So, yes, you can drive your car.

I got pulled over for it just a couple weeks ago and they can pull up your plates in the system and see if you’ve done it or not. You may get pulled over but once they run your plates they’ll see your just missing the sticker.
