I work at a mine site, and the answer to your question is that it really depends on the employer. Technically, you don’t need a driver’s licence to drive an off-highway machine on a mining lease, as long as the machine you drive will not be used on any public roads (at a mine I worked on in Norseman, we sometimes took the machines between sites, which involved driving on public roads). Mine sites have site-specific tickets for driving their machines, and these are issued independently of the department of planning and infrastructure (them blokes what give you a driver’s licence). HOWEVER a potential employer won’t look upon the loss of your licence favourably. It means to them that you pose a higher risk to safety than someone who still has their licence. And some places will require you to have a driver’s licence in order to get a ticket to drive certain machines. Heh, you could just try for a job anyway, and see if they even ask you for your licence, they might not but chances are hi
