Can I download and play an eAudiobook on a Mac or an Apple iPod?
The simple answer is No. The technical answer is that Macs do not have a version of Window Media Player that works with Windows Media Rights Manager version 2.x. Apple iPods use the .aac file format. This file format does not support the Digital Rights Management protection required by NetLibrary audiobooks. Digital Rights Management protection helps ensure that the content of our publishing partners is secure. As far as we know (and we’ve searched far and wide), there is not an eAudiobook vendor who both provides an eAudiobook product to libraries and is Macintosh compatible. Here are some sites which provide free eAudiobooks for iPods and other portable devices (the Cumberland County Library System has no direct relationship with any of these sites or their creators): • http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Gutenberg:The_Audio_Books_Project • http://librivox.org/librivox-catalogue/ • http://www.audiobooks.org/ • http://www.audiobooksforfree.com/screen_main.asp • http://www.freeclassicaudiobo
