Can I do immunostaining with cells encapsulated in Extracel hydrogels?

No. Antibodies are too big to permeate the Extracel hydrogels. Antibody staining can only be done by treating the “hydrogel + encapsulated cells” as tissue. The “hydrogel + cells” can be paraffin embedded, sectioned and stained. The other alternative is to recover the cells from the hydrogel and then stain them normally.
