Can I do 52 voluntary jobs in 52 weeks or am I being stupid ?
Am I right in reading that you intend to do this as some sort of sponsored activity? I would have reservations about it for the following reasons: Voluntary organisations need people prepared to commit their time on a regular basis. One day is almost useless to most organisations as orientation alone would take at least a day. These organisations have their costs just the same as businesses and volunteering for just one day would likely not be cost effective for the organisation and remember someone else has to give up time to show you the ropes. The last thing you would want I am sure is to be a liability rather than an asset. There is no real achievement (or benefit to the voluntary sector) in volunteering for 52 days for 52 different organisations. How about making the achievement more specific? Pledge to make £52,000 for one organisation for instance. This way the organisation is benefiting from your involvement as well. The task of organising the participation of 52 organisations
You wont learn many skills except the ability to leap from place to place. Employers look for people able to stick at something. 52 jobs in 52 weeks looks like someone quite unable to work at something, nor develop the skills that each job demands. Choose one, or possibly two, voluntary work places and learn as much as you can about their organizations, how they work, and you develop a cv that is actually functional. I have found that some voluntary work leads to paid employment. Several years ago I did voluntary work with a library as a researcher, this soon lead to paid work with a parliamentary library which in turn lead to an impressive cv, which lead to ten years of paid research work, and then entrance into a PhD programme and paid work as a university lecturer. So from little things, big things grow.
