Can I discard 2 or 3 defenses using his Persona Power then decide not to use any of the effects?
*A11.2 No. If you discard defenses to use his Persona Power, then you must choose which effects are to be used and do them. However, something may occur which will prevent you from using the benefit for which you discarded a defense. For example, Kanwulf begins his turn by discarding a defense to play an additional attack that turn. During his Defense Phase, however, he plays a Back Away. Since he can only play Ranged Attacks and does not have any in his hand, he then loses the benefit for which he discarded the defense. The same can be said when Kanwulf discards a defense to retrieve a Basic Attack from his Discard Pile but there are no Basic Attacks in his Discard Pile. With a little work, Kanwulf can actually use this as a cycling benefit without having to abide by any further benefits or effects for doing so.
