It is possible, and common, for students to defer the second year of their Provost’s fellowship funding in order to be a TA or RA. Your fellowship only requires that you take your two years of fellowship within five years of first enrolling in your program. Your department should be made aware of your plans well in advance, since they will let the Graduate School know the status of their fellows, including who will be continuing on fellowship during the next academic year and who plans to defer. While you are a TA/RA, you will continue to receive the level of stipend support that you have received while on fellowship.
