If you’re from an Assessment Level 1 country, you can apply for a student visa while you’re in Australia unless your Tourist visa has a No Further Stay condition. If your Assessment Level is anything other than Level 1, you can only apply from outside Australia. If you don’t know your Assessment Level, go to: http://www.immi.gov.au/students/students… Select your main course of study and then your country. Your AL will be listed after the visa name in the heading.
