Can I connect two computers to the same high-speed Internet line with separate modems?
No. Placing two high-speed modems on the same high-speed Internet line and trying to connect both to the Internet at the same time will cause both high-speed modems to fail. You can, however, share an Internet connection. Two technologies have evolved to allow your computers to share Internet access. You can create a small network (using standard networking products) without opening your computer up to sharing files, printers or privacy issues. The easiest solution to implement would be a hardware-based router technology, such as the AT&T Wireless Gateway (2Wire HomePortal) device. You can turn off either computer and not affect the Internet access of the other computer. The other technology for Internet sharing is a software-based solution, turning the primary computer which is connected to the high-speed Internet line into a gateway device. The software enables you to share multiple connections to a single Internet access point. That requires you to connect the computers which you wa
