Can i claim income support if partner works are we entiled to claim housing benefit?
Ok for those saying income support is for lone parents only are WRONG Income support CAN be given to couples and those WITHOUT children. I know this as both myself and partner get it and DON’T have kids (and before anyone judges we have both worked from age 16 full time and have a good work and moral ethic but due to unforeseen circumstances such as losing both our parents and cancer involved we find ourselves in a situation that we are working hard to get out of!) As for whether or not you’d get it when one partner works is another thing. I will be in the same boat soon myself where I will be working and he won’t. The way I understand it, is that one partner would get HB and council tax benefit but the other wouldn’t and would have to pay their half. Not sure about the IS bit yet. I did find out actually last year but can’t remember! Sorry! :0) I would give the job centre a call to find out. That’s what I did anyway, and found them helpful. Good Luck!
