Hybridization is such a touchy subject in the avian community. I own a hybrid conure. I bought him when he was young- and he was sold to me as a sun. After his first few molts I realized he was not a sun, or a jenday but a combination of the two- a sunday. I love him, I don’t care that he is a cross breed. Birds like him are frowned upon in aviculture though. The controversy is that because the United States is not allowed to import parrots from their wild habitats anymore, we are left with the captive bred birds that are here already to carry on the breeding. If people keep cross breeding and producing hybrid offspring, we end up with no pure species. Sometimes hybrids occur in the wild, when lack of a mate within the same species will cause some birds to look for a mate outside of their gene pool.
