Your eligibility depends on how your father acquired his Australian citizenship. If he acquired it by descent from an Australian parent, he must have been present in Australia for periods totalling two years at some time in his life in order for you to be eligible to acquire citizenship by descent from him. If he only ever lived here for 6 months plus a few visits, chances are that he hasn’t lived here for long enough. If on the other hand he acquired his citizenship by naturalization, you are eligible to apply for citizenship by descent.
