Yes, you will need to get a church annulment to become a Catholic and you MUST be a Catholic if you want to have a Catholic wedding (ALWAYS a full mass in church). Go to the priest at the church your fiance attends and talk to him about your concerns … and don’t worry if there are ‘problems’ with getting a tradtional church annulment … if you TRULY want to become a Catholic, and you TRULY want to get married in a Catholic church, as long as you have at least a year to ‘go through the hoops’ you will get what you want … I am a converted Catholic, I was married and divorced before, and I know the ‘secret’ to the whole ‘annulment’ process … IF YOU ARE SINCERE.
First you have to get an annulment in the Catholic Church which is no small thing. Your ex has to fill out forms describing your sex life, if you have children, how they were raised, etc. Some of the questions are embarrassing. You have to fill out the same forms. Then you also have to have family and a few friends fill out the same forms. Then you have to submit the forms pay a good size fee and they will annul your marriage. Once your marriage is annuled, you’ll have to be sprinkled if you haven’t been already. Then you’ll have to take classes on the Catholic faith and go through confirmation. At that point, you can get married in the Catholic Church. Some priests after the annulment will marry you if you promise to raise your children in the Catholic faith without going through the classes but if you aren’t baptized, you’ll have to get sprinkled.
