Can I be sterilised immediately after my Caesarian section?

I have to have a Caesarian section as my two other children were delivered this way. I would like to be sterilised as soon as possible. If this was to be done immediately after birth would my epidural anaesthetic be turned into a general anaesthetic for the sterilisation part of the operation or could this be done whilst I was still awake?
