Well, if you want to stay in the US with your partner for more than a few months, getting an F1 would probably work better for you than a B2, assuming you actually intend to go to class and get your certification or whatever. If you try that, you’re going to have all sorts of problems. Normally, you can stay in the US for 6 months on a tourist visa. You can ask for an extension through USCIS, but you need to apply well in advance before your authorized stay expires. If they grant you an extension, you’re not likely to get another one without a serious reason. Plus, you can’t do six months here, leave the US and come back a week or two later.
