Can I, as a payor, choose to enroll in the MEP?
We provide a service for both payees and payors to help ensure the terms of their maintenance orders are fulfilled. Anyone, a payor or a payee, may choose to enroll in the MEP. We keep accurate and detailed records of payments that both you and the payee can ask to see at any time, and many payors see us as a neutral third party, an objective agency, that can help reduce conflict over maintenance payments. It is, however, very important for you to understand that it is also our job to enforce maintenance payments when necessary. We know that many payors will never fall behind in their payments and enforcement action against them will never be necessary. But if you do fall into arrears (behind in your payments), we will take action to enforce what you owe, and you will not be able to leave the MEP without the payee s agreement.
