Can I apply for a specific licence/authorisation to import any product from any country?
No. You need to specify which product you wish to import from each country. For each application we receive, we have to assess the risk its introduction into the UK may present. Amongst other things, this is based on the type of product eg if it is raw or heat treated, the country of origin and the disease status of that country. For instance heat treated milk from a country that does not have Foot and Mouth Disease presents a lesser risk than raw blood from a country where Foot and Mouth disease is endemic. If you apply to import ‘any product’ from ‘any country’, we are unable to carry out a proper risk assessment. You should therefore specify from which country you wish to import each product.
