Yes, this is connection sharing. But, I tried doing that and could not get it working, because: Your laptop will assume the role of your router, and reassigning the IP address all nodes on the network using DHCP to that windows 169.x.x.x Your Laptop will need to have NAT so it can translate the routable Address from your ISP to an private IP address. Your Laptop will have to be connected to the modem and not the router. I even tried setting up a subnet between my PC and the laptop (192.168.2.0/29) with the wirless internet connection to the wirless router (192.168.1.0/24), and have the laptop run a routing protocol to route between the 2.0 and 1.0 networks…. no luck It was just easier to buy a wireless PCI card for the desktop in my case.
