Yes. Backend NNTP systems now listen on port 443 in addition to port 119. This particular port (https) was chosen because it is unlikely that an ISP would block, filter, proxy, or otherwise interfere with this port. This FAQ Entry was updated on 02.02.05, please give us your feedback.
