Can I access RefWorks from off-campus?

Yes, in the same way that you can access our research databases from off-campus. You will be asked to enter your ID number (student or employee), as well as your network password. See Off-Campus Access Instructions for more information.

A. Yes. You can access RefWorks from off-campus. Just use the library-created URL for RefWorks, which has code built in to it that will route you through the University’s authentication gateway, Bluestem. So, rather than using the simple, http://www.refworks.com/, which works fine if you’re on campus, use instead: http://www.library.uiuc.edu/orr/get.php?instid=424609. If you need to use the Write-n-Cite feature from off-campus, you will need to know the Illinois RefWorks Group Code. This is because when you’re in Word and click on Tools / Write-n-Cite, you’ll need to log into a modified version of RefWorks that does not route through the Bluestem authentication system. Logging in via the Group Code is another way to authenticate yourself as a U of Illinois student or faculty member, that is, a legitimate RefWorks user.
