Can I access corporate e-mail thropugh VPN without using Exchange ActiveSync?

I want to access my corporate e-mail (Exchange Server) wirelessly with my TX using the same method as with my ISP. I dont’ want to synchronize mail and calendar using Exchange ActiveSync to synchronize. I’ve got my VPN connection working, but have not been abole to set get access using POP or IMAP protocol.
