Can I access computer systems at my office through the StarBand system?

If your company provides a public Internet Web page interface to the information you are seeking, you can easily access it. However, in a VPN (virtual private network) setup, it may be difficult for you to access this information. The latency inherent in a satellite environment may cause the security (or “firewall”) system to “time-out” your connection.

If your company provides a public Internet web page interface to the information you are seeking, you can easily access it. However, in a VPN (virtual private network) setup, it may be difficult for you to access this information. This is because the latency inherent in a satellite environment may cause the security (or “firewall”) system to “time-out” your connection. This being said, StarBand has successfully tested the Cisco, Nortel, and Sonic VPN clients, but there are some very specific installation requirements. In some cases the VPN client software must be installed on a computer networked behind the StarBand connected PC, and certain proxy software may be required. We still can not guarantee that any specific VPN client will work, due to configuration differences on the office side.
