Can hospitals perform dna testing right after birth of a child before giving the bby the right last name?

They don’t do them at the hospital, and signing the birth certificate is a personal choice. If you sign it, the baby gets your last name. It ONLY means he/she gets your last name. Nothing else. In order to do child support, etc. they will perform a DNA test even if you signed the birth certificate. Once the DNA test is done and it is not your child you can get his/her last name changed very easily in the first week or so since their social security card and such wont be printed. *WHOEVER SAID IT MEANS YOU ASSUME ALL RESPONSIBILITY IS WRONG, YOU STILL HAVE TO BE DNA TEST FOR CHILD SUPPORT WHETHER YOU SIGNED IT OR NOT.

If you aren’t with your girlfriend any more she should give the baby HER last name. Regardless of the father… If you want a DNA test before you start paying child support that would be wise though. You don’t have to do it right away–just do it before finalizing the up the child support.
